The Holly Scanlan Foundation is committed to helping college students continue their education by easing the financial burden of cancer treatments affecting an immediate family member.

  • Student must have an immediate family member (or be the family member) with a serious cancer diagnosis (currently in treatment, formerly in treatment, or deceased)
  • Student must be referred by an oncology social worker or care manager
  • Student must be matriculated or accepted to matriculate as a full time undergraduate student at a regionally accredited post-secondary institution
  • Student must validate a need for financial assistance
  • Student must be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.75 (4.0 scale)
  • Student must demonstrate that she or he has been meaningfully involved in community service
  • Student must be a resident of Connecticut or Minnesota


  • HSF Scholarship applications are fully digital. Social workers and care managers of Connecticut and Minnesota will provide secure passwords to potential candidates that will allow them to complete the application online.
  • Applicants must provide the password given to them by their social worker as well as their social worker’s name, email and phone number.
  • All components of the online application must be completed for scholarship consideration, including supplemental materials.
